Hi, I'm Dr. Muhammed Lamin Ceesay.
I am a Senior Labour Economist at the Directorate of Employment, under The Gambia's Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment.
I work on employment and labour market policy — from designing surveys and managing the Labour Market Information System, to analyzing skills and training outcomes that inform how the Ministry shapes employment policy.
Originally from Banjulinding, The Gambia, I moved to Italy in 2019 to pursue a master's degree in Economics and Finance at the University of Naples, Federico II, followed by a PhD at the Free University of Bolzano, where I focused on empirical methods for evaluating how public policy can be optimized to improve social outcomes — particularly in crime reduction, privacy and civil liberties protection, and labour markets.
The combination of rigorous empirical training and now a front-row seat in shaping real policy is what drives my work today. I care about research that doesn't stay in a paper, but actually reaches the people making decisions and, ultimately, improves lives. Bridging that gap between evidence and implementation is what I'm spending this next phase of my career on.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and playing football (soccer) with friends on weekends. I'm always open to new experiences, cultures, and perspectives.
